Newcomer plans run for school board

Tony Rose will file next week to run for a seat on the Alamance-Burlington Board of Education.

The son of teachers and the parent of current students in the local school system, Rose said he wants to be a strong voice for parents and teachers.

He works at Elon University as an assistant director of information and systems technology and believes his work background would be an asset in helping the school system increase the use of technology in classrooms. Rose has been in his current position for 11 years following previous computer-related work experience.

“My 20 years of experience as an IT professional will bring needed technological perspective to the school board,” he said.

His mother, Virginia, taught elementary school for 35 years, including 31 years at Altamahaw-Ossipee Elementary School. His father, Glenn, taught high school math for six years and trained local school bus drivers for 26 years.

Rose, 40, attended Elon Elementary School and Western Middle School and is a 1987 graduate of Western Alamance High School. He has a degree in electronic engineering from DeVry University.
